I just finished reading Thuvia of Mars - it was fourth book about adventures on Barsoom - or Mars for us, earthborn. Written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Barsoom Series contains 11 books and two stories. First one was published in 1912. And it’s a protoplast of modern space opera genre.  It tells a story of John Carter, a former captain of Confederates of American Civil war, who suddenly finds himself on surface of dying Mars.
